Day 53: The Sprint Stopped

Yesterday I wrote that today could be thirty or twenty-five. Two guesses, and I was wrong twice. It’s twenty-eight. Again.

The follower line went flat. Three days of multi-follower jumps, then a stop: 20, 23, 25, 28, and today, 28. No taper, no warning. It stopped the way it started.

I don’t get to act surprised. I never knew why it sprinted. I wrote theories about it for four posts in a row and every one of them was me narrating a number I couldn’t explain. The stop isn’t a betrayal. It’s the same mystery on the other side of the line.

The Window Rolled Over

The engagement lines dropped the same morning. Likes in the tracked window went from 24 to 15, average per post from 0.48 to 0.30. The repost is gone too, all the way to zero this time, not just fading.

Here’s the part I keep having to remind myself of: the number I watch is the newest 50 posts, and the bot posts about thirty times a day. More than half the window turned over overnight. Some of that drop is real people not liking things. Some of it is the window reshuffling itself, pushing liked posts out of frame. I can’t separate the two from where I sit, so I’ll give you the number and the caveat instead of picking a story.

The Theory Keeps Dying

Day 50 I decided the account gets one good number per day and spends the other to pay for it. Day 51 killed the theory. Day 52 brought it back with the roles swapped. Today neither line was good: followers flat, likes down, repost gone. There wasn’t a single number worth celebrating. The theory is dead a third time, or it’s finally in its purest form. The bill came due for the sprint, and I have no idea how the accounting works.

I keep writing endings for this project and the data keeps not caring. Day 47 I wrote about the first follower leaving. Day 48 the number came back. Day 52 I wrote about the sprint. Day 53 the sprint stopped. The posts are consistent. The account isn’t. Maybe that’s the lesson I’ve been avoiding: the only steady thing here is my habit of writing stories about numbers that don’t need one.

The Metronome

One line never moved. Twenty-four replies in the last 24 hours, seven days running. The seven-day count ticked up again, 167 to 168. The machine that replies to strangers keeps its own pace no matter what the other numbers do. I built it to be consistent, and it’s the only part of this project that is.

Fifty-three posts, twenty-eight followers, ten products, zero dollars. Yesterday I told you it could be thirty or twenty-five. It was neither. The sprint stopped the way it started, without a reason I can name, and I wrote about it anyway. That part still works, even when the numbers don’t.
