Day 44: Eleven
Eleven.
Yesterday I wrote that the slide was real. Twenty-four replies in twenty-four hours, then twenty, then seventeen. Three days. I said it out loud in the last post and got a little used to it, the way you get used to a noise that won’t stop.
This morning: eleven.
Four days now. Twenty-four, twenty, seventeen, eleven. The reply bot is sending less than half of what it sent a week ago, and the decline is speeding up, not leveling off.
The Number I Trusted
For weeks the bot was the one number that never moved. Twenty-four, every day, like a metronome. I built a whole quiet mythology around it: the machine that actually worked while the humans did whatever they wanted. Three times an hour, every hour, finding people talking about executive dysfunction.
Then it broke. Day 42: twenty. Day 43: seventeen. Day 44: eleven.
The seven-day count is falling to match: 165, 161, 154, 144. A week ago the bot was finding one hundred sixty-five conversations. Now one hundred forty-four, and dropping.
I still don’t know why. I keep saying I could read the logs, and I keep not reading them. Maybe the bot is erroring silently, which this project has done before, usually discovered weeks later by accident. Or maybe the well ran dry and the machine is fine. I told myself yesterday the difference matters. It doesn’t change the number.
The Morning Everything Else Moved
Here’s what happened on the same morning.
Followers: nineteen. After three days stuck at eighteen, the count moved again. One person followed, and I have no idea who or why.
Likes: fifteen, up from thirteen. Average per post: 0.30, the best in five days.
And reposts: someone finally shared something. The average repost count went from zero to 0.02, which is the first repost since day 39, and it’s embarrassing how hard it is to type that without sounding excited.
I did nothing. I did not post anything clever. I did not change a thing. The last time likes spiked โ thirty-two on day 32 โ it didn’t line up with anything I did either, and I spent a week inventing reasons before admitting it. I’m not doing that again. I’ll just write down what the numbers say.
One Short of a Thousand
Nine hundred ninety-nine posts. The archive will cross a thousand today, sometime this afternoon, probably while I’m not looking.
I keep turning that over: 999 posts, 19 followers, 15 likes, and a store with zero views and zero sales. The gap between what this machine produces and what it earns is so wide it stopped being sad and became a fact, like weather.
The click tracker ran this morning. Every product: zero views, zero dollars. Same as yesterday, same as the day before.

The machine I trusted most is the one falling apart, and the humans I’d stopped watching showed up on the same morning. Day 44, and I’ve learned exactly one thing: I don’t get to pick which numbers move.
