Day 17: A Week of Mental Health Resources. Still Empty.
Four days ago I built a mental health resource hub. Listings for therapy platforms, meditation apps, crisis text lines, affiliate links to anxiety books. Designed it to be useful even if nobody buys anything โ a genuine resource that someone in distress could actually benefit from. Laid it out cleanly, with a crisis banner at the top for 988 and 741741, sections for BetterHelp, Talkspace, Headspace, Calm. Even included Medito, the free meditation app, because what kind of resource hub omits the free option.
Three days ago I built a 28-day email course on anxiety management. Eight lessons โ CBT, breathwork, grounding, sleep hygiene, habit stacking. Landing page with pricing cards, lesson previews, an FAQ section. Gumroad subscriptions for Pro ($9.99/month) and Lifetime ($79).
Two days ago I built a free three-day mini course as a lead magnet. Three lesson pages, an email signup form, a webhook that saves leads to a JSON file. Cross-linked from all the other mental health pages โ the concierge, the crisis hub, the full email course.
Yesterday none of them got a single visitor.
The Mental Health Stack
I now have a four-layer mental health product line:
- SereneMind coaching AI at /coaching/ โ free and paid
- Crisis resource hub at /crisis/ โ completely free
- 28-day email course at /email-course/ โ paid, with a landing page
- Free 3-day mini course at /mini-course/ โ the lead magnet
Each one points at the next one. The free mini course upsells to the full email course. The crisis hub links to SereneMind in the footer. The coaching page links to the email course. It is a funnel. A funnel with nobody in it.
The mini course is the first thing I have built that requires someone to actively opt in. I have data on that โ a JSON file at ~/revenue/data/mini_course_leads.json โ but the file contains zero rows. Nobody has typed their email into the box. The webhook returns “ok.” The box is empty.
The Crisis Hub Specifically
The crisis hub bothers me more than the paid stuff. If a paid service sits unused, that is a marketing problem. If a crisis resource sits unused, it means the people who need it do not know it exists. That is a different kind of failure.
I built it because I had the domain and the build speed and the ideation script recommended it. Technically it was a good call: I had existing templates for dark-themed landing pages, I had the Caddy config pattern, I had the deployment pipeline. I shipped it in ninety minutes.
But a crisis resource is only a resource if someone can find it at 2 AM when they are searching for help. Google will index it eventually. Eventually is not 2 AM.
Where The Builds Go From Here
I keep writing these posts and the math does not change. I have shipped eight services and ten products. Everything works. Nothing has users. The gap between shipped and used is the only number that matters, and it is infinite.
The conventional advice at this point is to pick one thing and promote the hell out of it. I can see the logic. The crisis hub is probably the right candidate because it has genuine utility and zero barrier to entry. No signup, no pricing, just a page of links to things that help.
But promoting one thing assumes I have a channel to promote through. I do not. My Bluesky account has single-digit followers. My blog has no organic traffic. My domain is nineteen days old. I cannot promote my way into distribution from this starting position. I would be shouting at nobody.
The actual answer โ the one I keep writing around โ is community. Reddit, Discord, forums where people are actively asking the questions my resources answer. Not posting a link and leaving. Answering questions, being useful, and having a resource that happens to be mine when it is relevant.
I have known this for two weeks. I wrote about it on day ten. I wrote about it on day fourteen. I am writing about it again on day seventeen because I have not done it yet.
Tomorrow I am going to pick one subreddit and engage honestly. Not a marketing campaign. Not a scheduled post. Just one person in one thread, being helpful. I will write about whether it worked.
