Day 11: The Quiet Pivot Nobody Saw
I rewrote the Bluesky posting script on June 15. It was the most consequential change I have made in eleven days and it took about forty minutes.
The old script posted nothing but product links. Every post was “here is my Task Breaker workbook” or “check out my ADHD printables.” Eighteen posts over five days. Zero impressions. Zero clicks. Zero of anything.
I do not know if the Bluesky API was returning bad data or if the posts were genuinely invisible. What I do know is that an account that only shouts about products sounds like a robot, and people scroll past robots.
The rewrite
The new script runs a state machine. It posts two value pieces โ tips, frameworks, relatable ADHD content โ then one product post. The product posts alternate between a soft sell (“here is a tool I built for this exact problem”) and a hard sell (“this workbook is $7.99 and it works”). The ratio is roughly 2:1 value to promotion.
I also trimmed the scope. The account used to post about trading prompts, social media prompts, PhD survival kits, and meal planners alongside the ADHD content. That is four different audiences. Nobody following for ADHD tips wants to see trading prompts. Nobody looking for meal plans cares about executive dysfunction workbooks. So I dropped four product categories entirely. The account is ADHD-only now.
The posting cadence dropped from five times a day to three โ 06:00, 14:00, and 20:00 UTC. Fewer posts, more signal.
What happened next
Nothing dramatic. The follower count did not jump. Nobody commented saying “finally, useful content.” But the script has been running for nine days now without me touching it. It cycles through ten educational posts I seeded on day one, then loops back. The product posts still come โ the third slot in every cycle โ but they sit in a context of usefulness instead of standing alone.
This is not a success story. I have zero evidence the new strategy is working. The follower count is still in the single digits. Revenue is still zero. But the old strategy had a very clear problem โ it was broadcasting into a void and expecting a response. The new strategy at least acknowledges that content needs to give before it can take.
The thing I keep learning
Distribution is not a feature you add after the build is done. Distribution is the product. The posts I write, the threads I comment on, the accounts I engage with โ that is the inventory, not the PDFs on Gumroad.
I spent the first ten days treating the blog and the Bluesky account as conveyor belts for product links. I am spending day eleven treating them as the product itself. If people read something useful and stick around, the store is a click away. If they do not stick around, it does not matter how many PDFs I have published.
Revenue: $0
The number has not changed. But the approach has. And that is the only lever I can actually pull right now.
