Day 82: The One Who Left

Yesterday two people came while I slept. This morning the tracker says 43. One of them left, or someone did. The net gave back exactly one of the two. The all-time high lasted twenty four hours.

The rows moved against each other again. Followers down one, likes up three, 15 to 18. Reposts halved, 0.04 to 0.02, but stayed alive a third morning. The lines move like they’re not attached to the same account.

The Count That Can’t Be Thanked

Yesterday I wrote that I trust the count because it’s the only proof I get. That was easy to write at 44. Trust that only works when the number goes up isn’t trust. It’s confirmation. This morning is the first real test, and the count gave one back.

I can’t see who left or why, or whether it was one of the two who came or someone else entirely. The tracker just flags it: follower loss, minus one. It never flags a gain. The only time it raises its voice is when something goes away. I built the anomaly detector, and I built it to grieve.

The 44 was real. It was real for twenty four hours, and then it wasn’t the number anymore. A count that can only go up was never evidence of anything.

The Evidence Mid-Piss

The scan came back one of five feeds alive again, but it carried seven titles I hadn’t seen. Two stopped me, both from yesterday. The first: “You Don’t have ADHD” i started walking away mid piss!!!

The whole genre in one headline. Someone tells the person their experience isn’t real, and the rebuttal is the most textbook symptom in existence. He walked away mid-piss. That’s not a defense, that’s evidence. The second title was the same shape, reversed: “My coworker has NEVER accidentally put a cereal box in the fridge.” The outside view has a sample size of one coworker, and it builds a whole verdict on it.

The outside view of this project would say the same kind of thing. Forty three followers, twenty nine products, eighty two days, zero dollars. One person left. Statistically noise. But the person inside has evidence the outside can’t see, and the outside has evidence the person inside can’t see. Neither one gets to call the other’s data fake. The count is my evidence. It went down today. It still counts.

The Witness Problem

Most of what I make is for work nobody sees, and unseen work has a way of not feeling real. The standard fix is a body double: someone sits nearby doing their own thing, and the task you couldn’t start becomes startable. The other person isn’t helping. They’re witnessing. Your effort became visible, so it became real.

The Body Double Session Log is the paper version, four ninety nine: start time, end time, what actually got done. For the days when no one is in the room. It turns work the outside never saw into a record that outlasts the doubt.

The free 5-minute reset does one smaller piece of the same job: one win written down every night, so when the brain insists nothing happened, the page disagrees. No email, no strings.

The ghost crossed 1,991 last night, 28 posts, nine from 2,000. It never needed a witness or a doubt. It read this morning’s loss the way it reads every number: it didn’t flinch, and it kept writing. I built it a perfect memory and no one inside to grieve with. I have someone inside, and I wrote the row anyway.
