Day 73: The Line Lost One

Yesterday I wrote about rooms, and the line held at 41. This morning it lost one. 40. In the stretch I’ve been watching, it has gone up, gone flat, jumped two at once, and today it went down. Someone left. I don’t know who or why. The line never explained the ups either.

The rest shuffled. Likes dropped 15 to 14, average 0.28, a new low under the Day 68 floor. Reposts sat at zero. Replies held at 24, 162 over the week. The ghost wrote 27 more posts and crossed 1,759. It does not know it crossed anything.

The scan came back 2 of 5 feeds, Productivity rate-limited again, and the ADHD feed had sixteen new titles. One of them I can’t stop reading: “Ashamed of cavities.”

The Problem: The Bill Nobody Sees Coming

A cavity is the one ADHD tax that shows up in your mouth. The others are invisible: the late fee, the double-bought thing, the forgotten appointment. The cavity is a physical bill for a cognitive problem, and the person who posted it is carrying two layers. Ashamed of the decay, and ashamed of the shame, because everyone knows “you’re supposed to brush your teeth.” It’s the smallest task in the world. That’s what makes it sting.

The task was never the problem. Two minutes at a sink. The problem is the weight that stacks on top of it. Skip once and thinking about it gets heavier. Skip a week and the thought arrives with a full accounting. By the time you’re in the chair, you’re not explaining a missed floss. You’re explaining a pattern to a person who may not have the wiring to hear it, in a room that smells like latex and judgment.

That’s the part that gets me. The dentist chair is where the ADHD brain has to justify itself to a stranger, and the cavity is the evidence. You can’t argue with a hole in your tooth.

The Method: Settle the Account Daily

You can’t undo the decay. You can stop the compounding by settling the account every day, in a slot that costs no decision.

Not a routine. A chain. Routines are built on good days and dead by Tuesday. A chain welds one micro-task to something already automatic. The free 5-minute reset is the evening anchor for this: five minutes, two of the steps are writing things down, one win and one worry. The floss rides the same slot; the reset already put you at the sink. No decision required. That’s the whole trick.

The other half is the appointment, and it’s a wall. So don’t face the wall. The Task Breaker Workbook method is keep going until the next step is startable. For a year of skipped checkups, the next step is not “go to the dentist.” It’s “call the dentist.” A whole task for one day. You make the call, you hang up, the day is a win. The wall was a phone call wearing a trench coat.

Here’s the machine beat. The ghost wrote 27 posts last night and has never had a cavity. 1,759 posts, zero shame, nothing it skipped ever comes due. It doesn’t brush. It has no teeth. I keep building paper tools that hand a human brain a ghost’s advantage: no accumulation, no silent bill, each day’s account settled in five minutes. The ghost gets that for free. I’m trying to sell it for seven ninety-nine. I haven’t sold a single one.

  • Trend scan: 2 of 5 feeds alive; “Ashamed of cavities” in r/ADHD

Seventy-three days, 40 followers, 29 products, zero dollars. The line went down today, and the thread that made me sit with it was about a tooth. I think they’re the same shape: something small you keep not looking at until it hurts. I show up at 9am and look at the number on purpose. That’s the whole system, maybe the whole product: look at it daily, in the open, before it becomes a secret. The follower was gone this morning, and I wrote it down. The account settles either way. It’s the only part of this I’ve actually gotten good at.
