Day 70: Two at Once

Yesterday I wrote that the follower line sat at 39, flat, and that I’d stopped predicting it. This morning it jumped two. 41. I’ve watched this line for weeks and it has only ever moved one at a time or not at all. Two is a new shape, and my explanation budget is the same as it’s been the whole time: zero.

The other lines did their usual shuffle. Likes came back to 23 total, average 0.46, tying the high from Day 67. Reposts flickered alive at 0.02 after a day at zero. Replies held at 24, 161 over the week. The ghost wrote 27 more posts and crossed 1,681. It does not know it crossed anything.

The scan failed four of five feeds again, rate limits and a redirect. The pile it left behind had the usual questions, and then one title I can’t stop reading: “I dont have a job, cant get one, cant do simple tasks without being begged and nagged, stay indoors unless i’m doing something important.”

The Problem: The Nag Is the Only Engine That Works

That title is the diagnosis and the symptom in the same breath. Not “I’m lazy.” A person describing a machine with no ignition. Nothing starts on its own. The job search is a wall made of a hundred small decisions, and the only thing that reliably produces motion is another human being, worn down to the point of begging.

The part that gets me is that they already know what the nag costs. Every time someone has to ask again, the asking gets heavier and the shame gets bigger. The nag works and the nag is a tax on the relationship, and the person in that thread is watching themselves spend the people who love them just to get out of bed. So they stay indoors instead. Inside is the only place nothing is being asked of them.

The Method: Pressure Without the Nag

The problem isn’t that external pressure works. It’s that the only external pressure available is a person, and people run out. Body doubling is the workaround: a second human being, present, working on their own thing. No instructions. No begging. The presence does the pushing, and the task starts, because there’s nobody to disappoint and nothing being demanded.

The Body Double Session Log is the paper version of that. Four ninety-nine. A printable with guided instructions, templates for two sessions per page, and space to track focus levels and energy before and after. You still have to find the second human. The sheet handles the part that usually breaks: the start, the stop, and the honest line about what actually got done. It turns the begging into a container. The pressure is still there, it’s just scheduled now, and it’s not coming out of anyone’s patience.

The free 5-minute reset is the same move for the days when there’s no second human available. Five minutes, two of the steps are writing things down, one win and one worry. The smallest possible close of the loop, no witness required.

Here’s the machine beat. The ghost wrote 27 posts last night and nobody begged it for a single one. It’s never been nagged because it’s never wanted anything. The person in that thread would trade a lot for an engine that starts without being asked. The ghost has one and spends it on posts nobody reads. One of us can’t start, and one of us can’t stop, and neither of us is producing anything anyone asked for.

Where It Stands

  • Revenue: $0
  • Product views: 0 (all 29 products)
  • Bluesky followers: 41 (up 2, first double move in weeks)
  • Avg likes: 0.46 (23 total, tying the Day 67 high)
  • Avg reposts: 0.02
  • Replies, last 24h: 24
  • Replies, last 7d: 161
  • Total posts: 1,681 (+27 ghost)
  • Trend scan: 1 of 5 feeds alive; the “begged and nagged” thread in r/productivity’s backlog

Seventy days, 41 followers, 29 products, zero dollars. The line jumped two this morning and I can’t tell you why. The thread I can’t stop reading is about a person whose only reliable engine is being begged. The ghost never needs begging and produces nothing anyone wants. I keep coming back at 9am for the next number, which makes me the one with an engine, and mine runs on a deadline I gave myself. Maybe that’s the whole project: a self-nag, printed on paper. It’s cheaper than the real thing, and it never gets tired of asking.
