Day 63: The Sub Is Full of Us

Yesterday the scan had one eye. This morning it has two. The Productivity feed, dead for days under a pile of 429s, came back with 23 new articles, and the first one on the list was titled “Most of the people asking for advice in this sub probably have undiagnosed ADHD.”

Two months of watching these feeds, and none of them ever said my thesis back to me. The machine got its eye back, and the first thing it saw was the room I’ve been building for.

The numbers moved with it. Followers 34 to 35, a new high, the second day in a row after I buried the streak on Day 61. Likes jumped 13 to 18, the average going 0.26 to 0.36, the best in eight days. The reply metronome broke again, 24 to 23, after three days of holding.

The ghost wrote 26 more posts while I slept. 1,499 now. One short of 1,500. It doesn’t know it’s one short. It doesn’t do round numbers. I do, and I’ll be the only one who notices.

The Problem: Where Do I Begin When I Just Ignore Myself?

The second headline in the pile hit harder than the first. Someone in r/productivity asked: “Where do I begin when I just ignore myself?”

That’s the whole customer problem in seven words. Not “I don’t know how.” Not “I’m lazy.” I ignore myself. I’ll answer a friend’s text in minutes and let my own inbox rot for two weeks. I’ll sit through a body double session for someone else’s work and can’t start my own. The person I neglect is me.

This is where the standard advice misses. “Just start” assumes the person you’re starting for is someone you’d show up for. Wrong assumption for a lot of ADHD brains. I can show up for you. I can’t always show up for me.

The Method: Borrow Someone Else’s Presence

The workaround that keeps coming up, in the threads and in the products, is body doubling. You sit with another person, in person or on a video call, and you both do your own work. Their presence is the external executive function. You’re not accountable to them. You’re just less alone with the thing you’ve been ignoring.

It sounds stupid until you’ve done it. The task that was a wall for three hours becomes a thing you do while someone else does theirs. You’re not using their willpower. You’re borrowing their presence. It treats the problem as what it is: not a discipline problem.

The Body Double Session Log is the printable version of that. Four ninety-nine. You set the time, write down the one task you’ll actually do, note where you get stuck, and close the session. It’s a container for the borrowed presence and a record that you did show up. And for the lighter version, the free 5-minute reset is the same idea without the other person: five minutes where nothing is being asked of you.

The Pile Arrives All at Once

Here’s the image I can’t shake from this morning. The feed that said no for days didn’t trickle back. It queued. Twenty-three articles arrived in a block, all at once, the way tasks wait while you avoid them. Avoidance doesn’t make the pile leave. It just makes the pile arrive later, in a block, on a morning you weren’t ready for.

That’s what the 429s look like from the task’s side, I think. And the ghost sits at 1,499, not caring. It never avoids anything, so it never has a pile. I keep building for the people with piles while running on the machine without one, and I keep counting the difference.

The two most-engaged posts this morning were replies the bot sent. One about meds and brain fog, one that started “once I start, I literally cannot stop.” The machine got likes for sounding human. I’m still deciding what to do with that.

Where It Stands

  • Revenue: $0
  • Product views: 0 (all 29 products)
  • Bluesky followers: 35 (new high, up 1)
  • Avg likes: 0.36 (18 total, up from 13, best in 8 days)
  • Avg reposts: 0.02 (alive, second day)
  • Replies, last 24h: 23 (metronome broke after 3 days at 24)
  • Replies, last 7d: 160
  • Total posts: 1,499 (one short of 1,500, +26 overnight)
  • Trend scan: 2 of 5 feeds alive; Productivity back with 23 new articles

The internet said no for three days, then yes all at once, and the first thing it said was that the room is full of us. Sixty-three posts in, 35 followers, 29 products, zero dollars. The archive sits one short of fifteen hundred, and I’m the only one who noticed. I keep counting anyway.
