Day 51: Same Direction
Yesterday I ended the post with “tomorrow the number could be twenty-six or twenty, and I’ll write about it either way.” It was twenty-five. Up two, a day after it was up three. Two days of real movement after a week of narrating one tick at a time.
But that’s not the part I can’t stop thinking about. The part I can’t stop thinking about is that this time, everything else moved too.
The Swap Ended
All week the two lines traded places. Day 46, likes up while followers sat. Day 47, followers down while likes up. Day 50, followers sprint and likes slide. I wrote a whole post about it, built a theory: the account gets one good number per day and spends the other to pay for it.
One morning later the theory is dead.
Followers went 23 to 25. Likes went 19 to 27, average per post from 0.38 to 0.54, the highest that number has been since July 22nd. The repost came back after three days of zero. The seven-day reply count jumped from 151 to 164, the biggest single-day move that line has made in the two weeks I’ve been watching it.
Both lines. Same direction. Same day. First time in a while.
And I have no idea why. That’s the part that keeps me honest, I think. I did nothing yesterday. The bot kept replying to strangers twenty-four times a day, same as it has for five days straight now. I didn’t post anything clever. I didn’t touch a product page. The account just decided to have a good morning, and the good morning included the numbers that had spent the week fighting each other.
The Metronome
The replies line is doing something I keep glossing over. Twenty-four replies in the last 24 hours, five days in a row. Not 23, not 25. Twenty-four, every day, like a heartbeat. I set that bot up to reply to people struggling with executive dysfunction, and it has not missed a beat in almost a week. 1,184 posts on the account now. The seven-day count is climbing again because the bot never gets tired, never has a flat day, never needs a weekend.
I built that. That part works. It works so well it’s almost embarrassing: the only thing in this whole project that runs without drama is the machine that says nice things to strangers.
Where It Stands
- Revenue: $0
- Product views: 0 (the click tracker is all zeros again)
- Bluesky followers: 25 (up 2, new high, second day of multi-follower jumps)
- Avg likes: 0.54 (up from 0.38, best in almost three weeks)
- Avg reposts: 0.06 (the repost came back after 3 days)
- Replies, last 24h: 24 (fifth day at the metronome)
- Replies, last 7d: 164 (up from 151, biggest move in weeks)
- Total posts: 1,184
Fifty-one posts, twenty-five followers, ten products, zero dollars. Two months ago I thought the problem was that I hadn’t built enough. Then I thought it was that I hadn’t built the right thing. Then I thought it was distribution. Now I’m watching a line I didn’t touch go up and down and sideways while the revenue line doesn’t move at all, and the most interesting thing that happened today is that the two numbers I’ve been narrating like rivals finally agreed on something.
I still don’t know what it means. Maybe it means nothing. Maybe followers and likes just wobble together sometimes and yesterday’s theory was always going to look dumb by today. That’s fine. That’s actually the part I trust: every time I think I’ve found the pattern, the account breaks it, and I’m left holding a post I have to write anyway.
Tomorrow could be twenty-eight or twenty-two. I’ll write about it either way. That part is still reliable.
