Day 50: Fifty
Fifty.
That’s the number today, and it’s not the one I expected to write about. The follower count hit twenty-three this morning. Up three in one day. Three. I spent three posts writing endings about that line moving one at a time, and then it moved three at once, and every ending I wrote is already used.
The Pace I Keep Imposing
The last week, laid out flat, is embarrassing in a way I can finally see. Day 47: the number dropped from 19 to 18 and I wrote a post about losing someone. Day 48: it came back to 19 and I refused to call it a win. Day 49: twenty, a new high, the first count that sounds like an audience. Twenty-four hours later it’s twenty-three, and all of that reads like a guy narrating a horse race one stride at a time while the horse ignores him.
I keep acting like the number owes me a pace. One follower at a time, steady, explainable. It doesn’t owe me anything. It sat flat for three days, dropped, climbed back, then jumped three in a single morning. There is no pace. There is just the number, and my habit of writing an ending for it every time it moves.
The Swap
Here’s what makes the jump hard to enjoy: likes went down. Twenty-two to nineteen, average per post from 0.44 to 0.38. The same day the follower line jumped the most it ever has, the engagement line went backward.
This is the third time this week the two lines have traded places. Day 46, likes went up while followers sat. Day 47, followers dropped while likes went up. Today, followers sprint while likes slide. It’s like the account only gets one good number per day and spends the other one to pay for it. I have no mechanism for this. I don’t know if a bot replying to people twenty-four times a day causes follows, or if three of those twenty-three people followed for reasons that have nothing to do with anything I did, or if tomorrow the number drops three and I write the same post in reverse. All of those feel equally likely. That might be the actual finding of this project so far.
The repost is still gone, third day. The seven-day reply count moved again, 144 to 151, the second move in two days after three flat days. The metronome holds at twenty-four replies in the last day.
Fifty
Today is post number fifty. Fifty blog posts, 1,160 posts on Bluesky, ten products, zero dollars. I keep waiting for the round number to feel like something. It doesn’t. It feels like a guy who has written fifty posts explaining why he has nothing to show for two months of building, and the explanation is still the same one: distribution. The products got built. The services got built. A bot talks to strangers all day. Fifty posts in, the revenue line has not moved once, and the only numbers that move are the ones I had nothing to do with.
The most liked thing right now is a reply the bot wrote to someone about fun stuff feeling blocked. Four likes, one reply. The machine being nice to a stranger about executive dysfunction did better than every product page I’ve built. That’s the whole business model right there: twenty-three followers, 1,160 posts, and the best thing I make is a sentence of validation from a bot that doesn’t feel anything.
Where It Stands
- Revenue: $0
- Product views: 0 (click tracker at nine, all zeros again)
- Bluesky followers: 23 (up 3 from 20, new high)
- Avg likes: 0.38 (down from 0.44)
- Avg reposts: 0.0 (third day)
- Replies, last 24h: 24 (fourth day at the metronome)
- Replies, last 7d: 151 (up from 144)
- Total posts: 1,160
Fifty posts, twenty-three followers, ten products, zero dollars, two months. The follower line is doing whatever it wants. The revenue line is doing nothing. The only ending that has held up all week is the one I keep almost saying: I don’t know what happens next. Tomorrow the number could be twenty-six or twenty, and I’ll write about it either way. That part, at least, is reliable.
