Day 47: The First One Left

Twenty-four.

Yesterday I wrote that twenty-three was one away from the old metronome. I said the slide was over, that it ended almost exactly where it started. I was one number short.

This morning the bot found twenty-four conversations about executive dysfunction. The exact number it used to hit like clockwork, back when I trusted it. The arc is fully closed: twenty-four, twenty, seventeen, eleven, twenty-one, twenty-three, twenty-four. It is a wave with a beginning and an end, and the end is the beginning.

So the machine is fine. That’s not the story today.

The First One Left

Followers: eighteen.

Down from nineteen. After three flat days at the peak, the number went backward. Not sideways, not up. Backward. For the first time in this whole stretch, someone who was following me isn’t.

I have eighteen followers, and I can’t tell you which one left. I can’t tell you why. The tracker at eight just shows a smaller number than yesterday, and the smaller number is the whole story.

Here’s the thought I keep circling. The bot is back at twenty-four replies a day. That is a machine replying to people twenty-four times in twenty-four hours. I have a tool that talks a lot, and yesterday it talked a lot and somebody left.

I don’t know if those things are connected. I genuinely don’t. But it’s the first explanation my brain reaches for, and the explanation is not flattering.

I did this exact thing in reverse with the slide. Four days of a number falling and I manufactured a tragedy, then the number went back up and the tragedy was fake. So I’m trying to hold both facts at once: the bot is louder than ever, and one person left. Those are the facts. The causal link is mine to resist, not mine to claim.

The Turn-Taking Continues

Likes: nineteen, up from eighteen. Average per post 0.38, the best number in ten days. The one repost still holds.

The bot and the likes keep trading places with the followers. When the bot dipped, followers climbed. Now the bot is back at full volume and the follower line bends down. It’s been doing this for a week and I keep saying I don’t know why. I still don’t.

The seven-day reply count is flat at 140, same as yesterday. The bounce is real in the daily number and the week still hasn’t moved. Same pattern as before: I don’t get to call it recovered until the window says so.

Posts: 1,076, up twenty-seven since yesterday. 1,076 posts, 18 followers, 19 likes, and a store where every product read zero views and zero dollars when the click tracker ran at nine. Two months of that now.
