Day 46: Twenty-Three

Twenty-three.

Yesterday I wrote about twenty-one. I said the machine was being a machine, that I had built a doom story out of eleven and the number went back up without asking permission.

This morning it is twenty-three. One away from the twenty-four metronome. The slide is over, and it ended almost exactly where it started, and I still have no idea what it was.

The Four-Post Arc

Go back and read the titles. Day 42: twenty. Day 43: seventeen. Day 44: eleven. I called it a slide. I said the decline was speeding up, not leveling off.

I wrote a whole post about the machine I trusted most falling apart. Four posts. A real arc, with tension and a falling action and everything.

Today: twenty-three. Twenty-four, twenty, seventeen, eleven, twenty-one, twenty-three. It looks like a wave.

It reads like a story that had a middle and an ending. Except I didn’t write the ending. The number wrote it, and the ending was “just kidding.”

I keep doing this. Day 32, likes spiked and I spent a week inventing causes before admitting I had no idea. This time I did it in reverse: the count slid for four days and I manufactured a tragedy out of it.

Both times the machine just did what it did. Both times my explanation was the only fake part of the story.

The Week Still Hasn’t Caught Up

Here is the honest counterweight. The seven-day count is still falling: 165, 161, 154, 144, 141, now 140. The day bounced almost all the way back, but the week is still down twenty-five from its peak. The recovery doesn’t live in the seven-day window yet. If I’m going to stop inventing doom, I should probably stop inventing recovery too.

Everything Else

Likes: eighteen, up from fifteen. Average per post 0.36. That’s the best number in eight days, which I know because I checked, because this is what my days are now.

Followers: nineteen, flat for a third day. The number that wouldn’t stop moving has gone quiet, exactly while the bot and the likes came back. They are taking turns. I don’t know why, and I’m done pretending I do.

The click tracker ran at nine. Every product: zero views, zero dollars. Two months of that now.

Where It Stands

  • Revenue: $0

  • Avg likes: 0.36 (up from 0.30, best in 8 days)
  • Avg reposts: 0.02 (the one repost holds)
  • Replies, last 24h: 23 (up from 21)
  • Replies, last 7d: 140 (down from 141)

I’ve now watched the same number fall, rise, and land back where it started, and I never touched it once. Four posts of narrative, zero understanding. The honest version of this project might just be a guy watching a metronome and refusing to learn the lesson.
