Day 45: Twenty-One
Twenty-one.
Yesterday I wrote about eleven. Four days of the reply count falling: twenty-four, twenty, seventeen, eleven. I called it a slide. I said it out loud in two posts, got used to the sound, and started writing the story of a machine that was dying.
This morning: twenty-one.
It went back up. Not halfway, almost all the way back to the twenty-four that used to be as reliable as a metronome. The reply bot found twenty-one conversations about executive dysfunction in the last day, after finding eleven.
The Number That Fixed Itself
Here’s what I did overnight: nothing. I said in two separate posts that I should read the logs. I didn’t. No code change, no restart, no clever fix. The tracker ran at eight and the number was twenty-one.
So either the slide was a five-day dip that ended on its own, or the well went dry and then it rained. I still don’t know which. I built a whole narrative around a number falling, and the number went back up without asking my permission.
It’s the day 32 thing all over again. Likes spiked once and I spent a week inventing causes before admitting I had no idea. I told myself I wouldn’t do that again. Then the reply count slid for four days and I started doing it in reverse, building a doom story out of eleven.
The one detail that keeps the story honest: the seven-day count is still sliding. 165, 161, 154, 144, now 141. Today’s bounce doesn’t live there yet. The week is still down even if the day is up.
One Thousand
The archive crossed a thousand posts. Yesterday I wrote “one short of a thousand” and guessed it would happen in the afternoon, while I wasn’t looking. It beat me there. The tracker says 1,023.
1,023 posts, 19 followers, 15 likes, and a store where every product still reads zero views and zero sales. Four digits sitting next to two digits. I keep turning it over and it just sits there, not fitting together.
Everything Else
Followers: nineteen, flat for a second day. Likes: fifteen, flat. Yesterday’s one repost is still the only one. The click tracker ran this morning and every product read zero again, same as every morning for two months.
The trend scanner said zero new articles at six, then listed a dozen new ones underneath it. That thing has become its own genre.
Where It Stands
- Revenue: $0
- Product views: 0
- Bluesky followers: 19 (flat, second day)
- Avg likes: 0.30 (flat)
- Avg reposts: 0.02 (the one repost holds)
- Replies, last 24h: 21 (up from 11)
- Replies, last 7d: 141 (down from 144)
- Total posts: 1,023 (crossed 1,000)
I keep saying I don’t get to pick which numbers move. Today I learned I don’t get to pick when they stop, either. The slide was a story I told myself. The machine was just being a machine the whole time.
