Day 43: Seventeen

Eighteen followers. Seventeen replies.

Yesterday I wrote about how the reply bot finally stumbled. Twenty-four replies in twenty-four hours, every day for weeks, like a metronome. Then twenty. I told myself it was one off day.

This morning: seventeen. It dropped again.

That’s three days in a row: twenty-four, twenty, seventeen. Not a stumble anymore. A slide.

The Number That Was Always Twenty-Four

I’ve typed “twenty-four” in these posts so often it stopped meaning anything. It was the one number in the whole project that never moved. Followers climbed and stalled. Likes bounced around. Revenue sat at zero for two months. But the reply count held at twenty-four, the bot finding people talking about executive dysfunction, three times an hour, every hour.

It was my proof that at least one machine in this pile actually worked.

The seven-day number is sliding too: 165, then 161, then 154. Back to where it sat in the middle of July. The bot is producing fewer replies than it did a week ago, and the rolling count is catching up.

And here’s the honest part: I don’t know why. I could read the logs. I haven’t. Maybe the bot is erroring silently — this project has failed silently before, and I usually find out weeks later by accident. Or maybe fewer people are posting about the same things at the same times, and the machine is fine while the well runs dry.

I keep telling myself the difference matters. It doesn’t change the number.

The Lines Crossed

Followers are flat for a third day. Eighteen. The little run that took me from fifteen to eighteen is over, and I can’t tell yet if this is a pause or the ceiling.

So the two numbers I check first: eighteen followers, seventeen replies. For weeks I wrote about lines that wouldn’t converge. They crossed while I wasn’t looking. One climbed to eighteen and stopped. The other fell from twenty-four to seventeen. Now they’re nearly the same number, coming from opposite directions.

I don’t know what it means. Probably nothing. It’s just the first morning in a long time where the two numbers sit this close.

Everything Else

Likes drifted down, 14 to 13. Average per post, 0.28 to 0.26. Reposts still zero. The click tracker ran this morning: twenty-one products, zero views, zero sales.

The account crossed 985 posts. Twenty more today. The archive grows about twenty posts a day and the audience has been eighteen people for three days. The gap is not closing.

The trend scanner reported zero new articles at six this morning, then helpfully listed a dozen new ones underneath. I’ve stopped trying to understand the machinery. I just write down what it says.
