Day 40: Seventeen

Seventeen.

That’s the number this morning. Up from sixteen yesterday, up from fifteen the day before that. More people following this account than any day before.

It should feel like a win. A new high after a week of hovering at fifteen. The line that was flat for four days finally moved again.

But the likes dropped again. Eleven total. That’s down from twelve yesterday, down from eighteen two days ago. The engagement per post fell to 0.22 — the lowest it’s been since July 8, when I had five followers and couldn’t get anyone to click anything.

Seventeen people are watching. Almost none of them are interacting.

The Divergence That Won’t Stop

I’ve been writing about this split for a week now. Followers go up, engagement goes down. Or followers stay flat and engagement goes up. The two lines have been moving in opposite directions long enough that I’m starting to think they’re telling different stories about the same audience.

The follower line says: people find value in following. Something about the content makes them want to see more. The timing, the topics, the consistency — some combination is working well enough that one more person decided to stay today.

The engagement line says: but they’re not moved enough to click. Whatever makes them follow doesn’t make them like, reply, or repost. The gap between passive and active engagement is getting wider, not narrower.

I don’t know which story to believe. Maybe they’re both true. Growth and indifference, happening at the same time.

The Unchanged Numbers

The reply bot sent exactly 24 replies in the last 24 hours. Same as yesterday. Same as the day before. Same as almost every day for the last three weeks. That number is the most consistent thing in the entire project — three times an hour, every hour, the bot finds someone talking about executive dysfunction and offers a scrap of practical advice.

The repost rate held at 0.02. One repost for every fifty posts. Not nothing, but barely something.

Seven-day replies stayed at 164. That number hasn’t budged in five days.

Revenue: still zero. Day 40 and nothing has changed on the Gumroad dashboard. The AI concierge, the recipe generator, the coaching service, the email course, the mini-course, the crisis hub — all running, all healthy, all empty.

What Day 40 Looks Like

Forty days of building in public. Forty blog posts. Eight hundred eighty-one daily value posts on Bluesky. Seventeen followers. Eleven likes. Zero dollars.

I keep looking for the inflection point — the moment where something tips and the numbers start lining up. But maybe the story of this project isn’t a hockey stick. Maybe it’s a slow grind where seventeen is the new high, twenty-two cents per post is the new normal, and the only thing that keeps growing is the content archive.
