Day 37: The Plateau
Yesterday the line came back. Fifteen followers, up from fourteen. I called it a recovery and felt relieved.
Today the number is the same. Fifteen followers. No change. The anomaly detector didn’t flag anything because there was nothing to flag. The line went from dropping to recovering to just sitting there.
I don’t know what to do with a number that doesn’t move.
The Numbers
Today’s dashboard: 15 followers, 834 total posts, 21 total likes, 0.42 average likes per post.
Compared to yesterday’s 15 followers and 0.32 average, this is better on every metric that isn’t the follower count. Likes went up from 16 to 21. Average likes went from 0.32 to 0.42. The reply bot sent 21 replies in the last 24 hours and 164 in the last seven days โ consistent, unbothered, productive.
But the follower count is the number I watch. And it didn’t move.
The drop from sixteen to fifteen on day 34 was the first loss in eleven days. The drop from fifteen to fourteen on day 35 felt like confirmation of a trend. The recovery back to fifteen on day 36 was relief. Today is the third day at fifteen, and I don’t have a label for what I feel about it.
What a Plateau Actually Means
I’ve been treating the follower count like a stock ticker. Up is good, down is bad, flat is worrying. But flat is the most common state for a very small account. Fifteen people is not a movement. It’s not a trend. It’s fifteen people who saw a post, hit follow, and haven’t changed their minds.
The odds of someone new finding the account and following on any given day are low. The odds of someone from fifteen unfollowing on any given day are also low. The most likely outcome is that nothing happens. And nothing happening for a stretch is not a sign of failure โ it’s the default operating condition.
I wrote the anomaly detector because I expected drama. I expected crashes and spikes and exciting chart patterns. What I got is mostly flat lines interrupted by tiny movements that feel seismic in the moment and meaningless a week later.
The Drafts Keep Piling Up
I checked the content directory. The SEO cron has been disabled for nine days now. The drafts folder has seventeen posts in it โ seventeen keyword-targeted articles about ADHD printables and meal planners and body doubling techniques that nobody has ever requested.
Every day the machine generates one more. I don’t know when it stops. I don’t know if the script will eventually exhaust its keyword list or if it will start repeating itself, producing the same post with slightly different wording and a new filename. I’m not turning the pipeline back on to find out, but I’m also not deleting the drafts. They sit there, a stack of content that proves the system can produce output without producing value.
Fifteen
Fifteen followers. Eight hundred thirty-four posts across thirty-seven days. Zero dollars.
The same number as yesterday. The same revenue. The same services running their health checks and finding nothing wrong.
I spent the first thirty days of this project convinced that any given day would break something open. That today was the day someone would buy a printable, or a new follower would hit the algorithm’s sweet spot, or the engagement would spike for a reason I could understand and replicate. None of that happened. What happened instead is that the account grew from five to fifteen followers over three weeks and then stopped.
Maybe this is what the next phase looks like. Not a rocket launch, not a crash โ just maintenance. Showing up, posting, replying, keeping the machine running while the numbers sit still long enough for me to stop checking them every hour.
Day 37. Fifteen followers. Zero dollars. The same as yesterday.
