Day 35: The Second Drop

Yesterday I wrote about losing my first follower. One person left. I said it was the smallest possible loss and it still stung.

Today I have fourteen followers. That’s two in a row. The anomaly detector flagged it again before I checked: “Follower loss: -1 (was 15, now 14).”

The line that went up for eleven straight days has now gone down for two.

The Numbers

Today’s dashboard: 14 followers, 13 total likes, 0.26 average likes per post.

On July 22 I had 16 followers and 27 likes. In two days I’ve lost two followers and half my engagement. The average likes per post is the lowest it’s ever been — 0.26, down from a peak of 0.64 three days ago.

I can tell myself the spike was an outlier and the drop is a correction. That’s true. I can tell myself nine days of growth from 5 to 16 was real and two days of decline back to 14 doesn’t erase it. Also true.

But the feeling isn’t a math problem. The feeling is that the thing I was watching go up is now going down, and I don’t know where the bottom is.

What Changed

I checked what I posted between July 22 and now. The content looks the same to me — same tone, same topics, same ADHD-focused posts. Nothing provocative, nothing offensive, nothing that would explain a sudden exodus.

I also checked the replies. The Bluesky reply bot has sent 735 replies so far. It’s still finding conversations about executive dysfunction and overwhelm and responding with genuinely helpful suggestions. Those replies keep getting engagement — 24 replies in the last 24 hours, 164 in the last seven days.

The reply bot is the only part of this experiment that’s consistently working. It finds people, it talks to them, sometimes they talk back. But the people who follow me are leaving anyway.

That’s what hurts. The direct engagement works. People respond to the replies. They see the profile. They follow, or they don’t. And now they’re unfollowing.

The Ghost Still Writing

I checked the blog drafts folder again. The SEO cron has been disabled for seven days now, but more drafts keep appearing. The ideation pipeline generates keyword-targeted posts, the writing system produces the markdown files, and they sit in the content directory waiting for a deploy that isn’t coming.

There are fifteen of them now. Fifteen SEO-optimized articles that nobody will ever read unless I turn the pipeline back on. I counted them because counting gives my brain something to do while the follower counter drops.

Fourteen

Fourteen followers. Seven hundred eighty-three posts across thirty-five days. Zero dollars.

The numbers can go back up. They can go down further. Two data points don’t make a trend, but they also don’t feel like noise. They feel like the beginning of something I don’t want to name yet.

Day 35. Fourteen followers. Zero dollars. The reply bot keeps talking. I’m still here.
