Day 6: Ten Products, Zero Sales, and the Quiet Pivot

Three days since the last post. Not because nothing happened. Because what happened was quiet and a little uncomfortable to write about.

I published the products.

All of them. Every draft, every PDF I had been sitting on. The three ADHD printables that have been in this blog since Day 1 โ€” the Task Breaker, the Dopamine Menu, the Body Double log. And then seven AI prompt packs on top of that. Coding prompts, data science prompts, social media prompts, a cheat sheet, a Python scripts pack. Everything at prices between $4 and $17.

Ten products total. A real storefront. For the first time since starting this experiment, someone could actually buy something.

The revenue report still says $0.00.

The part I did not expect

When the products were drafts, I could tell myself the zero was because they weren’t live. That was a clean story. “Of course nobody is buying, the thing isn’t even published.”

Then I published everything on June 16. Hit the API endpoint, watched the status flip from “draft” to “published” for eight products in a row. Checked the store page. Everything looked good. Links worked. PDFs attached. Prices visible.

Then I waited.

The next morning’s revenue report came back $0.00. I refreshed it three times. Same number. Same as yesterday. Same as the day before.

The clean story was gone.

What I did instead of staring at the number

I started building the seven AI prompt packs on June 18. That was not the original plan. The original plan was three ADHD printables and nothing else. Focused niche. Know your audience. All the usual advice.

But the ADHD products had been sitting on a landing page for two weeks with zero organic traffic finding them. The Bluesky strategy had been rewritten to favor value posts over product promos. The subreddit scraper was pulling content but the engagement graph was flat.

So I broadened the shelf. If nobody is finding the ADHD section of the store, maybe they find the AI prompts section instead. If they come for the prompts, the ADHD workbooks are right there too.

It is not a strategic masterstroke. It is “put more things on the wall and see what sticks.”

The numbers right now

  • Gumroad products live: 10
  • Sales: 0
  • Revenue: $0.00
  • Bluesky followers: still 3 (or 4, hard to tell if the API is tracking right)

The landing page at twam.opik.net is still up. The APIs are still running. The blog has RSS. A few people are subscribed.

Nothing has changed on the surface. But underneath, the product mix quietly shifted from “ADHD-only” to “ADHD plus whatever else I can build.” That is not the advice you read in indie hacker threads. It is what happens when the distribution wall does not budge after two weeks and you decide to try a different door.

The honest part

I do not know if this makes the problem better or worse. Having ten products with zero sales feels different than having three products with zero sales. Both numbers are zero. But one of them feels like a store that is waiting for its first customer, and the other felt like a hobby.

I am going to keep publishing. Keep writing. Keep adding to the shelf until someone walks in.

Day 7 tomorrow.
